Planned preventative maintenance is the work you schedule so you are not reacting to failures. Plant is serviced at the right interval, wear is caught while it is still cheap, and the paperwork stays current.
What a planned programme includes
- An asset register for the site: what you have, where it is, and its service interval.
- A twelve-month planner covering every scheduled visit.
- Service and inspection to manufacturer and statutory intervals.
- A record against each asset of what was done, by whom, and when it is next due.
- Advance notice of anything approaching end of life, so replacement is budgeted rather than urgent.
Why it costs less than reacting
A serviced system fails less often, and when it does fail the fault is usually smaller. Emergency call-outs, out-of-hours rates and consequential damage are where reactive-only maintenance gets expensive. A planner moves spend from unpredictable to budgeted.
